GHD Heat Protect Spray - A Real Problem?

In the last several years, high temperature resistant, insect resistant and mold resistant vinyl composite have all been getting more popular. However, one major problem has been the GHD heat protect spray.

Before I explain what the GHD heat protect spray is and why it is a real problem, I would like to make it clear that this article is not intended to promote the use of pesticides or any other types of chemicals. It is only intended to describe some of the problems that are associated with the use of this spray on any type of flooring and the fact that it is a problem for many homeowners.

The problem that GHD heat protect spray creates is an uneven finish on the floor. What I mean by this is that the spray will actually create an uneven surface where there wasn't one before. This is the result of the spray melting the vinyl composite. To be more specific, a heat protect spray such as GHD HVLP can melt the vinyl or plastic. For example, if a particular pattern is applied to a hardwood floor with a spray that contains a wax base, the wax will actually melt as it bonds with the wood and the wax will go through the pattern creating a burn mark.

It is important to note that although I use the term "heat protect spray" I am not talking about a liquid wax. For this reason alone, it is important to make sure that the wax that you use does not contain a wax base and that you do not use wax that is warmer than the temperature that the vinyl or plastic was originally treated at.

Another problem is that a small number of homeowners are actually allergic to the scent of the spray and will actually experience problems when they have guests or when you walk on their floors. The problem is that some people find the scent of the spray to be too overwhelming and will suffer from an allergic reaction that can cause breathing problems and irritations. Even though the spray is meant to simply "melt" the plasticor wood, some people actually experience problems even when they are not actually touching the surface. As an example, if you walk on your vinyl and it has GHD heat protect spray on it, your skin may become irritated and you may start to have skin rashes and allergies. Finally, the biggest problem associated with the use of GHD heat protect spray is that it is an unstable material. The spray itself will bond with the wood and plastic fibers and this means that over time, the floor may begin to form strange wrinkles and it may even begin to warp and buckle.

It is important to remember that the GHD heat protect spray will not stay in place permanently. Although, you can place it under your furniture legs, it will still be lifted up when you put the furniture back. When you attempt to put the furniture back on, the spray will come up off the wood and may not be able to be removed.

It is also important to understand that GHD heat protect spray doesn't stop dust from entering the room. If you do happen to have a problem with dust, you should try to avoid walking on the room or walking around on it while the spray is on. It is important to remember that dust will enter the room and enter even when the spray is on.

It is important to keep in mind that even though the GHD heat protect spray may look appealing, it isn't a good choice for use on any type of flooring. You should try to avoid the use of the spray as much as possible because it is not safe for your floors and the end result is uneven surfaces that are often unsightly. I am not saying that the spray is a bad thing, but it can be a real headache.
